In addition to helping to ensure its grantees’ long-term sustainability
by funding their general operating needs and capacity-building efforts,
FACT has initiated a number of studies and other projects to help
its board, grantees, and the grantmaking sector as a whole better
understand the factors and “best practices” that can
increase the effectiveness and longevity of progressive organizations.
These efforts include:
- A Community Organizing Evaluation Project to help organizations evaluate their activities and impact;
- A study on groups’ ability to diversify and stabilize their funding through earned income from sales of mission-related goods and services;
- FACT’s effort to encourage greater electoral activism and voter engagement among its grantees and within the progressive sector as a whole, and
- A jointly funded effort with two other foundations to develop a “blue-green” collaboration to reframe homeland security as part of a joint labor-environmental chemical safety campaign.
